After a chance meeting and a couple of dates, Phil Cosgrove knew he was in love with Leigh McCutcheon.
Though Phil, 56, was due to leave for a trip to Hawaii soon after their first few dates, he postponed it so he and Leigh could continue seeing one another.
“We ended up doing that trip to Hawaii together one year later,” recalls Leigh, 47. “Love was in the air as we flew over waterfalls where Jurassic Park was filmed.”
On April 21, 2017 the Gold Coast pair said ‘I do’ among 90 guests at their sunset cocktail wedding held at Oscars in Burleigh Heads. Their children made up the wedding party – with Leigh’s 16-year-old son Alex giving her away.
“Our kids are in their late teens and early twenties,” explains Leigh. “They’re thrilled for us!”
Leigh used Easy Weddings to design her day. Small touches like their cake topper and candle bomboniere from Styled Candle Co. helped to make it unique and special.
“Our wedding was full of love and laughter,” recalls Leigh. “Phil woke the next morning commenting that we should do it all again! My feet definitely did not agree.”
As advice for couples embarking on the same journey, Leigh advises against wearing stilettos from midday to the end of the wedding – “Bring a back up pair for dancing!”

Leigh and Phil opted for a ‘first look‘ a couple hours before their ceremony. “This let us be in our happy bubble as we tripped around the Gold Coast in our vintage Kombi to get photos,” says Leigh.

The pair chose to get married by the beach on the Gold Coast as they’re both “such water people”.
Phil and his son, Jackson, looked handsome in their navy suits by Roger David.
Their rings were designed and created by Ben Tracey at Finelines – who is known for designing pieces for the Royal Family, celebrities including the Beckham’s and Brad and Angelina, and even the ‘Heart of the Ocean’ necklace in Titanic!
Jake and Andy Live Acoustic Music provided the entertainment for the night.
“We feel so happy and blessed to have found each other,” says Leigh. “We couldn’t imagine life without each other.”
