High-school sweethearts Madeleine Sharp and Zachariah Bendtsen were set on making their country garden wedding day all about family.
That meant the first step for the Canberra-based pair, both 24, was returning home to Sydney for the big day. “It was a complete family affair,” explains Maddie. “All our bridesmaids, groomsmen and flower girl were our brothers and sisters.”
Maddie and Zac married at St John’s Anglican Church in Camden, NSW on March 11, 2017, and celebrated their reception in a marquee on the bride’s parents’ property in Ellis Lane. “It felt really personal and special,” says Maddie. “We wanted the whole event to have the feel of a beautiful garden celebration and to be quite casual.”
Maddie and her mum spent an entire week leading up to the day preparing the property. “We were exhausted, but it was so worth it,” smiles the bride. In keeping with the relaxed atmosphere, dinner and dessert were served as large share platters. “It was everything we wanted – relaxed, family based, personal, unique and above all a celebration.”

The couple’s vintage transport was a stand-out on the day.

The bride’s stunning accessories and wedding band was purchased from Michael Hill Jeweller.

The bride and groom were lucky enough to “borrow” a neighbour’s property to have photos taken.

Having the reception on the bride’s parents’ property meant a lot of DIY! Maddie says it was tiring but “so worth it”.
