Sanjana Mukhopadhyay and Anir Baksi brought the best of Bollywood to their Indian-themed wedding.
After a whirlwind romance Anir, 28, proposed to Sanjana, 26, on a beautiful spring evening in Adelaide. Soon after Sanjana says they began planning their “big, fat Indian wedding”.
“We started with trying to keep it low-key and ended up with a five-day wedding spread across Perth, Adelaide and India with 500 guests in total,” she says.
The ceremony of their Bollywood wedding was held in Perth at the South Perth Civic Centre on December 6, 2014. It was conducted in the traditional Bengali way with vows in Sanskirt witnessed by more than 200 guests.
Then the party, or make that three parties, began, in Perth, Adelaide and Sonar Bangla, India.
“As I’m from Perth and Anir is from Adelaide and both of us have extended family in India, each event held a special significance to us and our families,” Sanjana says.
First up was Perth, where Crystal Swan Cruises provided a river-themed reception like no other. Another reception followed at Adelaide’s convention centre.
“And of course, no Indian wedding is complete without Bollywood dancing and our DJ ensured there was plenty of that,” Sanjana says.
“After a sumptuous Indian buffet, the dance floor was set alight on both nights by our DJ to more Bollywood music, which set the crowd roaring.”
The couple have plenty of fond memories of their wedding that spanned three cities.
“Those three weeks with family, friends, and Bollywood dancing will be happily etched in our hearts forever,” the bride says.
