A Melbourne man through and through, second-time groom Tony Yeend, 54, had never lived much further than a 5km radius of his hometown, Essendon when he met the gorgeous Jo Hadley on a work conference. Originally from Canberra, Jo and her two children – Kiera, 19, and Jack, 14 – had moved to the Gold Coast for greener (and warmer) pastures after Jack suffered a severe bout of croup that almost killed him. “It was the best thing we ever did,” says 45-year-old Jo, and it would take Tony two-and-a-half years enduring a long distance relationship to discover the same. Overlooking the ocean, the heartfelt nuptials witnessed by 50 friends and family, including Tony’s brother who was the best man and his youngest daughter, 27, were held on the point at Burleigh Heads National Park. Jo was walked down the aisle by a nervous Jack who took his role very seriously – “Gotta make sure you don’t fall over and show everyone your knickers, mum,” he said. Then, afterward, a laid back cocktail wedding reception was held at the chilled-out Point Break Bar & Grill where the dress code was strictly “no ties” and the menu “amaaazing” says Jo. “We had delicious pork belly, little Asian boxes with fish and chips, and prawns and scallops with Asian dressing. Tony had a lot of friends up from Melbourne and they were in awe of the food!” Jo says, “I’m all starry-eyed remembering our day. It was wonderful.” |

Channelling Audrey Hepburn, Jo wore the cutest 50s-inspired tea-length frock from Spurling Bridal. It featured a satin sweetheart neckline with high lace overlay, waist bow and A-line skirt. Daughter Keira, 19, was her maid-of-honour wearing a similar style gown in striking sapphire also from Spurling.

Local singer/guitarist Wayne Ranson was chosen to entertain at the reception. It was his awesome rendition of Kenny Rogers’ The Gambler that won him the gig. “It was my favourite song when I was 18,” says Jo. “Tony and I were at a cafe one Sunday when Wayne was playing and we said to him if you do a good job of The Gambler you’re hired.”
