When Lexie McGill and Ben Ewing crossed paths it was a turning point in both their lives.
“Ben had returned from a four-year trip to Europe and I was about to embark on a one-year trip to teach in London,” Lexie, 29, explains. The pair spoke every day while Lexie was away and arranged to meet up in Bali for a holiday. “Safe to say, I quickly returned home.”
The next year the couple built their first house together and two years later Ben, 34, proposed in the Melbourne pair’s local park.
The couple held their modern traditional wedding on December 12, 2015 at St Michael’s Uniting Church right in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD in front of 110 close friends and family.
A cocktail reception followed at Black Rock venue, True South, the stylish venue putting a modern twist on the traditional celebrations.
“I always pictured our wedding to be filled with good friends, food, wine, lots of flowers and music,” Lexie says.
“Ben and I had such an amazing night… The minute we got back in the car I turned and said to Ben ‘I want to do that all again.'”

Lexie’s modern wedding dress by Karen Willis Holmes was in keeping with the day’s overall theme.

“Our wedding was the perfect combination of traditional and modern with the ceremony at St Michael’s and the very relaxed reception at the up-and-coming True South overlooking the ocean,” Lexie says.

The gorgeous surroundings of St Michael’s proved the perfect choice for the couple’s wedding ceremony.
Lexie and Ben met through mutual friends at a breakfast in 2010. “Ben and I instantly knew there was something there,” Lexie says.

“There will be little bumps along the way, even on the day,” Lexie says. “Just take it in your stride as most of the time you’re the only one who actually notices.”
