Peter Ellul’s icy proposal to girlfriend Tiarne Armstrong on the ski fields of New Zealand led to a wedding in a very different climate – the idyllic Sunshine Coast.
Tiarne, 23, and Peter, 26, had choppered up a summit in Queenstown so that the Brisbane groom could see snow for the very first time.
But the prospect of experiencing the white powdery wonder was not the only thing giving Peter wild butterflies! Mid-flight, he summoned the courage to pass a handwritten proposal inside a card to his gorgeous girl. “We landed the helicopter and climbed out and Peter got down on one knee – and sank to his waist in powder snow!” laughs Tiarne. “He then presented me with a gorgeous white gold, double halo ring. We celebrated with hot mulled wine so Peter could thaw out.”
The heart-melting moments continued at their Noosa wedding on July 24, 2015. Around 70 guests gathered outdoors at Hidden Grove to attend the beautifully styled celebrations, which later resumed at Sails Restaurant.
Tiarne took a leading role in the venue decoration, with help from Beautiful Weddings, using the colours and concepts the couple both love.
“There was something special about the event that established a sense of closeness and love between our family and friends,” Tiarne says. “Everything ran so smoothly, there was no stress, pressure or nerves.”

Tiarne stunned in a Helena Karkovic custom made gown “to suit my figure and personality,” she says.

The couple were wed by lifelong friend of Tiarne’s parents, Brad Richards.

Tiarne met Peter at the bar where he works, on what was meant to be his day off. “If Peter had turned down the shift we would never have met!” Tiarne says.
