Teenagers when they first met, Kristie Tanner and Jason Brinkworth have been through thick and thin.
In the past eight years they have been there for the big moments and supported one another when it counted most. “He was my date to my high school graduation, he supported me through university, through to getting my first job in recruitment,” says Kristie, 25. “I watched him join the Army and I was there when he graduated in his Army March Out.”
More recently they bought a home together and adopted two puppies. Then in 2014, Jason [26] got down on one knee … in the bathroom! After being called in from the kitchen, Kristie found the surpise. “I opened my eyes, to find him on one knee with a diamond ring and ‘Will you marry me?’ written on the bathroom mirror. In the background were candles and a bubble bath,” she smiles.
The couple married at their elegant wedding on November 29, 2015 at Mount Lofty House in Crafers, South Australia. “The morning of the wedding I was really nervous … I was such a mess,” says Kristie. But she had her mum, nanna and aunty for full support. “Walking down the aisle was one of the most difficult things I have ever done… for me this was an eight-year build-up. But that moment I first saw Jason, all those butterflies went away.”
They celebrated with their 75 guests where they got to show off dance moves they had been practicing for months. “It was a beautiful moment, but I think that everyone’s favourite dance was the father-and-daughter dance to ‘Daddy’s Little Angel.’”
